This paper seeks to recover the Western intellectual tradition for contemporary reflection on the university— a tradition that authors like Roger Scruton so exemplarily defended. I will also offer some reflections inspired by the thought and work of Roger Scruton and the Argentine thinker José Manuel Estrada. The first reflection will focus on general aspects of university life in the 21st century. The second will address some specific challenges facing the Argentine university in the current context.
