This article analyzes the Frepaso Party’s performance within the Alianza during the De la Rúa Administration (1999-2001), focusing on its strategic rationality. The formation of the Alianza with the UCR lead Frepaso away from its opposition role towards government responsibilities, which in turn introduced a new strategic scenario. The author analyzes how the party reacted to two crucial political events during this period: the resignation of Vice-President Carlos Álvarez and the incorporation of Domingo Cavallo to the cabinet. He states that Frepaso’s performance in the coalition was a strategically feasible option in a market with limited political opportunities despite the opposition’s rhetoric.Downloads
