Abstract

(Dis)satisfaction with democracy emerges as an indicator of public opinion that evaluates both the constitutive values of this system of government and the performance of the administration in power, which is why it becomes relevant to clarify which factors or elements cause such citizen perceptions. Support for the functioning of democracy is a fundamental element in the political future of a country or region, in addition to serving as a shield against the attacks of various threats that call into question the democratic regime. In this sense, the article presents a review of the literature around the main explanatory variables of satisfaction with democracy, with the purpose of serving as a starting point for those researchers who intend to continue analyzing this object of study.
