Unemployment and Labor Market Policies. International Analysis of Public Policies: Some Successful Cases

Over the last fifteen years, a number of countries have been able to improve significantly their
employment situation while most of the world experienced an increase or stability in unemployment. This paper undertakes a literature review of the employment and labour market policies of these successful countries with the aim of drawing some lessons from ‘good practices’. However, it is not the aim of this paper to recommend specific labour market policies for Argentina but to point out the importance of some common characteristics which are present in these well-off cases.
Those who had success, apart from experiencing a good economic performance, used a mixture
of policies ranging from active labour market policies to austere wage policies, broad social security and greater labour flexibility.
