Abstract

The research on “Metacognitive reading comprehension strategies and performance in Language and Literature” aims at identifying the metacognitive strategies in reading comprehension and determining their relation to the final grades attained at Language and Literature, as a subject. The hypothesis of this study is that students with greater use of metacognitive strategies in reading comprehension show a better performance in Language and Literature. The study sampled 207 adolescents of both sexes attending 7th, 8th and 9th grades. According to the results of this research there is a significant positive relation between the global metacognitive strategy and performance in Language and Literature.
