LAS DIGRESIONES DE COVARRUBIAS A PARTIR DE LOS CLÁSICOS: LAS CITAS VIRGILIANAS

Abstract

This article reviews three entries of Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española in which Sebastián de Covarrubias cites one of the most renowned classical authors: Virgil. It is quite clear that the choice of these quotes by the lexicographer is a byproduct of the interest of an era that understands its foundation in classical culture. The review involves the interpretation of several Tesoro entries and the analysis of the perspective that Covarrubias gives to the Virgilian references.
