SEBASTIÁN DE COVARRUBIAS, UN LECTOR CRÍTICO DE OVIDIO

Abstract

This article presents a review of references to the Latin poet  recorded in Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española, published in 1611. It is known that the man of the Spanish Golden Age recognized the foundations of his culture in the Greco-Latin world, thus is not surprising Covarrubias' predilection by this author. However, not all the allusions are quotes or references as literary source, but in some cases the lexicographer dissents with the poet and brings a personal vision.

The proposal requires the re-reading of several of the entries of the Tesoro and the analysis of the perspective that Covarrubias gives to the Ovidian  references.
