Abstract

The content of the present article arises from the need to reconstruct the tours and continuous displacements that were forging Michel de Certeau’s intellectual itinerary in order to be able to found the “style” of his own “intellectual practices”. Following Luce Giard, we distinguish three stages of unequal duration, in Michel de Certeau’s itinerary: 1) the time of the foundations dedicated to the history of the spirituality and of the Company until 1968; 2) the time of jolt and extension of his intellectual project between 1968 and 1974; 3) the time of fullness between 1975 and the end of 1985. We concentrate, in this occasion, in the presentation of the first two stages, leaving for later developments the third stage. We close the article with the discussion concerning the relevancy of the certainly provocative title of the article of E. Roudinesco: “Michel de Certeau, clarified iconoclast”.
