Abstract

In 1910 the conservative elite readied themselves to commemorate the centenary of the may revolution. Despite the cheerful atmosphere society was immersed in, the opposition strongly objected to the aforementioned commemoration. Nevertheless, the political leadership was most concerned about of the anarchists and their written press. The current article seeks to delve into the scarcely addressed issue, the newspaper coverage carried out by “La Protesta”, regarding the May Centenary, which was scarcely addressed by anarchist historiography. We will be focusing on publishes as well as contributed opinions by sympathizers, followers; and pictures as support to the revolutionary discourse. Finally, we will analyze the context that unleashed state repression and the consequences.
