Abstract

This paper intends to approach a subject barely addressed by social and legal historiography in Argentina: the social reintegration of those discharged from imprisonment. Based on biographical works and studies on penitentiary and post-penitentiary institutions, we shall analyze some aspects on Jorge H. Frías’ professional work. Jorge Frías was a distinguished lawyer, President of the Criminal and Correctional Appeals Court and founder of the first social reinsertion institution in Argentina in 1918: the Board of Released from Prisons from the Federal Capital. We hope that this short work may contribute to encourage other studies on different aspects of the penitentiary world (prison managers, penitentiary voyagers, national and international penitentiary congresses, magazines for prison officers, etc.) which at present still remain unknown.
