Aspectos simbólicos prehispánicos en la Quebrada de la Cueva: una mirada arqueológica

Abstract

This paper introduces some insights into the archaeological symbolic aspects found in La Cueva gorge, Humahuaca, Jujuy province. First, the funerary contexts recovered in previous and recent fieldwork in the Pukara de La Cueva will be discussed, following the guidelines of the so called Archaeology of Death. Second, the finding of a fossil mollusk in a habitation context in the site will be introduced to analyze its possible symbolic connotations. In this way, this research aims at transcending the presentation of the mere material record to deal with the ideological, symbolic and social relation aspects of pre-Columbian societies in La Cueva gorge.
