Abstract

This work analyses one of the debates concerning the Spanish-American independences, that one around the philosophical influences of them, especially, of the populist doctrines of sovereignty (Francisco Suárez’s, particularly). Therefore, we seek the work of Manuel Giménez Fernandez’s, the first who postulated the above mentioned thesis; then we analyses the texts that studied the independence processes, and asked about the influences, as well as other works that inside the same record, did emphasis in the theoretical discussion of the doctrines. Finally, we check the current historiography, which seeks into the political cultures and the social imaginaries, instead of the debate around illustrated or scholastic influences.
