Abstract

The centenary celebration was coming up and the Government was afraid the celebration might be spoiled by strikes and protest demonstrations of the working class. People unrest reached unexpected limits. It was not possible to ignore, deny or disregard the social problem, the question was how to neutralize it. And this concern gave rise to a group of university professors who decided to study this issue thoroughly. The foundation of Museo Social Argentino faced this problem with the purpose of analysing it from its several aspects and fi nding solutions and alternatives for an issue with wide social effects. It was an academic initiative that gave rise to the founding group and its subsequent activities. The purpose of this article is to defi ne the agents that contributed to the foundation of the institution and the fi elds where they acted in order to improve the living standard of the working classes.
