Visigoths : myths and problems about their ethnogenesis

Abstract

In the studies of Late Antiquity, there are two different ways through which we recited the old traditions about Goths. One of them is the oral way, born in the IV-V centuries, and the other one was the written way, in the V-VII centuries. This last is the other one, that we propose, as hypothesis, was the way to recreate the old Visigoth tradition, putting in the Traditionskern (Tradition nucleus) the old TraditionstrÁ¤ger (Tradition bringer): The Balto’s royal family.
