Abstract

The chronicle “Los hispanoamericanos. Notas y anécdotas”, published in La Nación, on August 1, 1900. This brief text allows us to glimpse a way of seeing the city of Paris taken up by numerous visiting writers after Darío. In other chronicles about the city of Paris, Darío registers the Parisian stage, placing himself as a foreigner, and although he touches on themes such as poverty. Even, he identifies with the group of foreigners who positively enjoy the luxurious modernity. The glosses of the chronicle, “Los hispanoamericanos”, are far from the glamorous descriptions of this city to get into the difficult condition of Hispanic Americans in the days of the Universal Exhibition. It is proposed to study these texts as discursive materiality and not only as an interpretation of socio-political events.
