Abstract

Most studies have focused on the Enalviello episode (together with the Zorraquín Sancho episode) of the Crónica de la población de Ávila. It has been found particularly interesting, above all, because of its coincidences with the episode of king Ramiro II of León told in the portuguese Livros de linhagens and with the one about the treacherous countess, in the Primera Crónica General. These studies, therefore, are based mostly on the analysis of the problem of common sources, and on a comparative analysis. The aim of the present study is to engage in a more specific analysis of the literary functioning of the episode, given the evident heroic condition of its central figure, and to relate it with other episodes within the Crónica that represent heroicity as a problematic feature.
