Abstract

This work proposes a reading of the XXXIIII example of the Libro del conde Lucanor (“De lo que conteçió a un falcón sacre del infante don Manuel con un águila et con una garça”) that shows how don Juan Manuel evaluates and discusses the figure of royal authority. However, his relationship with the king is understood as the summation of the conflicts between nobility project and royal project. It is viewed from the ideological perspective of the great lords of Castile. At the same time a comparative reading will be intended with Mocedades de Rodrigo, which deals with the same problems with a similar ideological view but presents a different resolution of the conflict
