Abstract

The process which began as fromVatican II has shown that the “reform” of the liturgy consisted, in many cases, in recovering the most authentic elements and traditions which characterized the prayer of the church. The celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours was no exception. One such element was the insistence on giving an outstanding place to the Word of God in such celebrations. The aim of this article is precisely to highlight the place of the Word of God in the Liturgy of the Hours and the criteria which guided such instructions. The article concludes with a series of reflections on the sacramentality of the Word.
