Facing the 2012 Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization
for the Transmission of the Christian Faith, the present article invites to think
on various meanings of the new evangelization and contributions of the Latinamerican
Church in dialogue with the Instrumentum laboris. It presents the
new evangelization as: the enacting of the first pastoral Council; a hermeneutical
discernment from the People of God settled in the World Continents; the
renovation of the evangelizing action in the light of Evangelii nuntiandi from
Pope Paul VI; the proclamation of the Newness of Christ facing new signs of
the times; a process of acculturated and liberating evangelization initiated in
Latin America; a new season in the Church history and a missionary pastoral
work facing the faith crisis according to Pope John Paul II; the transmission of
the fullness of life through the joy of the faith according to Pope Benedict XVI;
the revitalization of the apostolic vocation by means of a permanent missionary
movement according to Aparecida. The text makes proposals for the Latinamerican
Church to make appear her heart and hear her voice in the coming
interchange of the Synod. She can share the newness of her regional figure and
some typical aspects of her pastoral life, like the piety of the popular Catholic
Christianity, the evangelizing co-responsibility between the baptized, the preferential
love for the poor, the face of a half-caste, urban and unequal Continent,
located in the West and the South. She can encourage the recognizing of the
presence of the God – Love in the secular culture, the conversion to a pastoral
spirituality in hope, the gift of the encounter with Christ through overwhelming
gratitude and joy. The text gives witness, showing signs to hope for the
Church in the Third Millennium that new winds blew from the South.
