The author proposes a historical reading of the six years comprehended between the two dates covering the Argentine Bicentennial, 1810 and 1816. The article surveys the men and ideas that surrounded the First “Junta”, the propagandist role of the clergy, the questioning by two bishops of the legitimacy of the Revolution and the support of a patriotic bishop, the period of absence of bishops and religious continuity, the cultural work of the “Junta” and the Congress of Independencia in Tucuman. The author seeks to show from first hand sources, the place that the Catholic Church had at this time.Downloads
