Abstract

Gender inequality is a longstanding issue that has gained particular prominence in contemporary discourse. Within the labour market, it is reflected in various phenomena, including horizontal and vertical segregation and wage discrimination. This study examines the gender wage gap (GWG) in Argentina between 1947 and 1974. A variety of sources, including laws, decrees, and collective bargaining agreements are employed to reconstruct gender-based wage disparities and to analyse their evolution in relation to governmental and legal initiatives. The aim is to provide explanatory pathways for the development of the gender wage gap in Argentina within the framework of Import Substitution Industrialisation. Building upon previous research, the paper explores the evolution of the GWG in connection with the social, cultural, and political factors that may have influenced or impacted it.
