Uqbar, by Jorge Horst, was inspired by Borges´ short story Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius. This work was premiered on October 9th 2011 in Buenos Aires at Carlos Guastavino Auditorium of the Centro Nacional de la Música. Written for three singers, chamber music ensemble and percussion, this work develops the idea of stage sound action. The piece was divided into five sections, named Isole, Yapay, Finestre, Gardens and Klangstaub, and traditional opera concept was discarded from the beginning. The piece has no text and the action is centered on sound aspects. The composer does not intend to tell a story or propose dramatic action at all, as Uqbar´s drama is shaped by sound, and sound itself is the plot.
