Abstract

In this philosophical-literary essay, the author performs a Nietzschean reading of one of the main characters in the television series Succession, broadcast on HBO between 2019 and 2023. While collecting Shakespearean and economic interpretations of the series script, she wonders about which it is the true engine of capitalism and the role of money in that movement. Likewise, it reflects on some non-rational components of business decision-making, such as desire and the will to power. It ends –as a literary exercise– supposing that the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche –or his voice in the book Thus Spoke Zarathustra– drew up the character profile of Logan Roy, a fictitious media and entertainment mega-entrepreneur and embodying the idea of SuperMan or Übermensch of the German philosopher.
