Un análisis historiográfico de la figura de Viriato desde los tiempos medievales hasta el siglo XIX

Abstract

This article analyzes the historiographical perspective of Viriato from the middle ages to modern times and 19th Century. During the 13th and 14th centuries it presents a brief study about Viriato’s fi gure, comparing him with Cid Campeator or Ben Hasan. During the 17th and 18th Century, important studies of Viriato’s fi gure were carried out like Florian de Ocampo, Ambrosio de Morales and others that offer innovative ideas about Viriato and his time, with the helpful support of some literary writings. To sum up, during the 19th century, European Nations were constructed and, due to it, the idea of Viriato’s Nationalism.
