Geographical and ethnological descriptions of the Indies in Spanish authors of the 16th century. Analysis of the writings of Pedro Mártir de Anglería and Gonzalo Fernandez de Oviedo on the following aspects: idea of a New World, critique and rejection to the ancient ideas (mirabilia, monsters), description of plants and animals, employment of the notions of “golden age” and “natural kindness” to the native societies, comparative analysis and valuation of the native cultures in relation to the European.
