Abstract

This article synthesizes the research of the SODRE (Servicio Oficial de Difusión, Representaciones y Espectáculos - Uruguay) Dance Corps from its foundation in 1935 until its transformations into the SODRE National Ballet between 2010 and 2017. Its relevance is due to the musicological vacancy of a global vision of the development of Uruguayan classical dance. In order to cover the history of the institution, the postulates of Leonardo Waisman (2017) and Carl Dahlhaus (1997) are retaken. From the analysis of the documentary sources —hand programs, photographs and government resolutions—, and of the oral sources —interviews carried out whit the founding dancers between 1996 and 2014— a chronological organization of the activities of the SODRE Dance Corps is proposed in five stages.
