Abstract

This paper analyses four pieces that won the first prize in the most important contest of “Música Festera” from a musical point of view. These pieces suppose a total breakup with the formal structure, traditional timber use and harmonic conventionalisms of the music of Moors and Christians. The Christian marches Picadilly Circus (1991) and Marfil (1994), the “pasodoble-marcha” Fernandin (1998) by José Vicente Egea Insa and the Moorish March Abraham by Rafael Mullor Grau became the projection of the classical modern language into this gender, making the fusion of the traditional style with contemporary elements and influences from other music streams like Jazz.
