Abstract

The present work shows how Mendelssohn offers a solution to the problem of the sonata form in the Romantic Period, through many procedures based specially upon a different way in which to face recapitulation. He manages to re interpret a traditional form to make it suitable for the Romantic language. By the use of examples it is proved that, in spite of being considered “the most classic” of his generation, Mendelssohn introduces bold, radical solutions and a special skill to restructure the musical form from its language, without destroying it.
