On the day of Filomena Salas González's death, the Revista Musical Chilena told that it joined the "mourning of national music", an expression that shows that her departure represented something more than a loss for family and friends. However, when browsing the bibliography of the history of Chilean music in search of who she was, it is very difficult to find any mention of her work, if not simply for her role as mother and wife of two great musical national personalities. This article investigates two periodical publications—Revista Musical Chilena and Marsyas—to try to reconstruct some vestiges of the work of a woman who, at the beginning of the 20th century, was part of the selected circles where musical and institutional bases of nowadays Chilean music were established.
