Angela Peralta (1845-1883) como compositora: historiografía y análisis de la canción el deseo
Abstract
Ángela Peralta’s music is often considered ‘simple’ and described as ‘salon music’, although its current performers perceive it as ‘concert songs’ or ‘chamber music’. The complex demarcation between these conceptions, which notably became deeper as result of twentieth-century historiographical practices, continue in today’s scholarship. The article analyzes the role of the these differences in the reception of Peralta’s music, as well as some of the controversies surrounding the construction of the singer as a mythical persona, with enemies and defenders who have not always supported their arguments by means of documentation or the musical analysis of her works. The article compares different historiographical approaches to Peralta and concludes with an analysis of her song El Deseo, published in 1875.
