We attempt to analyse in this article three opera librettos based on the myth of Don Juan, in the light of the symbolic motif of the double or Doppelgänger: Don Giovanni, by Lorenzo Da Ponte and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1787); Rigoletto, by Victor Hugo, Francesco Maria Piave and Giuseppe Verdi (1851); and Don Juan, by Leopoldo Marechal, Javier Collazo and Juan Carlos Zorzi (1998).
