Transculturación musical en la fiesta del Señor de las Aguas de Girón : estudio de la apropiación y cambio de rol de la chirimía y el violín

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the process of change that certain musical aspects have undergone from the perspective of Musical Anthropology, present in the traditional ceremony of the ‘Fiesta del Señor de las Aguas de Girón’. Thus we begin with the description of the festival in the socio-cultural context of the Canton Girón; later, we emphasize the syncretic processes and the transculturation of the instruments which came into Ecuador in the colonial period, resulting in the appropriation and role change that these instruments experienced, making emphasis on the Chirimía and the Violin.
