The present article boards the study of the IV Motet Book for five voices composed by Palestrina in 1584. This print is based on the well known biblic poem Canticum Canticorum. The musical style of the collection is closer to the madrigal than the motet. So, we try to explain this apparent contradiction between the genre and the style appealing to the analysis of the text, music and the biographical circumstances.
