In this paper we reconstruct many aspects about the biography of the spanish medievalist Claudio Sánchez-Albornoz, we analyze the personal and historical circumstances that led him to emigrate to Argentina and in what way that experience resulted in his arrival at the Universidad de Buenos Aires where it was founded for him the chair of Historia de España, origin of the later foundation of the Instituto de Historia de España and the Cuadernos de Historia de España. It will be highlighted the intellectual and historiographic significance of his work at the university and how it comes from there the argentine school of hispanic medievalism.
