El Facundo de Sarmiento: una lectura a la edición de 1851

Abstract

This article analyses Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s Facundo editions since its first publication, particularly focusing on an 1851 edition titled Vida de Facundo Quiroga i aspecto fisico, costumbres y hábitos de la República Argentina, seguida de apuntes biográficos sobre el general frai Felix Aldao. With respect to previous editions from 1845, in 1851 the author made several revisions of the work: the book title was changed, some chapters were removed, and biographical notes about the general frair Feliz Aldao were added. Taking into account these modifications, the historical context can be examined through the changes introduced in the content of Sarmiento’s pieces of writing. Also, in order to improve the comprehension of Facundo publications in its context, a necessary connection is established between the book and pieces of writing of other authors from the 19th and 20th C.
