Abstract

Owners of a rebellious and critical discourse, but also committed to and focused on the working man, the Argentine anarchist movement’s main objective was to challenge, question and contradict the government speech. One of the tactics used by the anarchists was propaganda by deed or direct action, as we’ll name their terrorist attacks. The libertarian literature was disruptive and radical, but violent incidents were isolated. Nevertheless, the ruling class and society in general was very worried and transformed the problem into one of hygiene and public safety. This situation coupled with the violent labor disputes and the news of criminal acts from Europe, led to an exaggerated panic in different social environments during the Centennial celebrations.
