Keywords:

Western culture solved its housing needs by appealing to rationally accepted architectonic types and patterns. Nevertheless, the existing models were always attached to a tense process between permanence and change, with a marked record of losses, recoveries and substitutions of its characteristics. Towards the Centenary of May, the epitome of the domestic paradigm was expressed by means of the house. Housing adapted to the needs of the social unit it represented, mainly the basic family. Different social levels adopted different types of housing. In this work we have analysed the existing types of houses according to the different social levels, with the intention of studying the relationship between family conformation, social strata and functional organization.
