Abstract

This work focuses on an immigration which, in Argentina, has been neither the most populous nor the most popular, but possesses features that are eminently characteristic and distinct from the main immigration volume our country has attracted. We are talking about that of Japanese origins. We choose Yoshio Shinya’s figure, introducing him as the fi rst immigrant to come from the Empire of the Rising Sun, so as to verify his exhaustive intellectual labour in search of a deep friendship between the Argentine and Nippon people, during times in which anti-japanese feelings had spread throughout our lands. We demonstrate his eagerness to achieve a better understanding of both countries’ cultures, so distant and close at the same time.
