Abstract

This research is about the economy of the Argentine Confederation between 1852-1861. We have studied the financial conditions of thirteen provinces, fighting from the beginning against the lack of rents and currency. The Confederation sanctioned the Argentine Federal Constitution, organized the National Government, but had to fight against Buenos Aires Custom House, and the impossibility of collecting taxes for governmental expenditure. In spite of an important economic development, they were heavy indebted, so they couldn´t went on, and have to leave the leadership of the country to Mitre. This research is also about the own diminished wealth of Urquiza, once of the richest entrepreneurs of Argentina.
