Early literacy development situations in two different social groups in Argentina

Abstract

296 Literacy development experiences of 20 four-year-old children from middle socio economical level and 20 four-year-old underclass children are analyzed. Both group experiences were compared according to type, structure and interaction between participants. A qualitative procedure was used (Strauss & Corbin, 1991).
Differences regarding type and number of experiences in each group were identified. Children in both groups showed equal interest regarding reading and writing.
